(Applause Books). Television history was made on April 30; 1997; when comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her sitcom alter-ego Ellen Morgan; "came out" to her close friends and 36 million viewers. This groundbreaking episode represented a significant milestone in Amerian television. For the first time; a TV series centered around a lesbian character who was portrayed by an openly gay actor. The millions of viewers who tuned in that historic night were witnesses to a new era in television. The Prime Time Closet offers an entertaining and in-depth glimpse into homosexuality on television from the 1950s through today. Divided into four sections; each devoted to a major television genre; this unique book explores how gay men and lesbians have been depicted in over three hundred television episodes and made-for-TV films. These include medical series; police/detective shows; situation comedies and TV dramas. The Prime Time Closet also reveals how televisions treatement of homosexuality has reflected and reinforced societys ignorance about and fear of gay men and lesbians. At the same time; it celebrates programs like Ellen and Will Grace that have broken new ground in their sensitive and enlightened approach to homosexuality and gay-related themes. This book is witty and insightful; accessible and illuminating; a look into what has become an integral part of American media culture.

Most of which are VERY detailed ( I skipped quite a few.) I had to use my Staedtler triplus fineliners to fill the tiny spaces. Each illustration is printed on one side; the paper is not perforated. Theyre printed close to the binding; so you have to take care if you choose to remove a page from the book. I would lay the book out and gently bend it a bit; so I could tear it from as close to the binding as possible. Then I used my Fiskars paper trimmer to clean up the edge. I recommend using a scrap of paper underneath; as there will be a fair amount of bleeding.Overall I did enjoy coloring some of these illustrations; others just werent my cup of tea.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Love this coloring bookBy Mitza McCordI love this sooooooo much. I have spent a number of hours on these lovely pictures. I used both colored pencils and sharpie ultra fine point markers. The intricacy of the patterns are very appealing and I have really enjoyed my time coloring these pictures. I have attached some of the finished pictures; one that isnt complete yet and one that I havent started yet.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I LOVE THE ART OF Wendy PiersallBy ZllvsI love this book and I am thinking of getting more by the same author. The mandalas I used to paint them with a friend of mine. In fact we also used to make them. One step at the time each one of us would start in the center core of the mandala and made a design. Then the other one would follow and would design the outer side; around the core; then the next one and so and so until completing the mandala. My friend told me that by starting that way and going from inwards outwards the mandala would excerce its full power. That means; we felt very relaxed while doing them and coloring them. It was a wonderful experience. And this book has the same feeling to me. Anyone can start from the place they prefer in the mandala. But I still start from the core and paint outwards; just as the way I used to do it. Because a mandala is not just a beautiful design; it is a spiritual design. And this author is a great spiritual mandala designer.
