Not the best; but right up thereBy Eric SedenskyI resisted buying this book for the longest time; simply because; already owning The Real Book: Sixth Edition and The Real Book - Volume II (C Instruments): C Instruments 2nd Edition (Fake Book); I had charts for more songs than I could learn or play in a lifetime. But then; I had a chance to peruse one in a music store; and found it had a lot of tunes that I really wanted to play; including The Jive Samba; Witchcraft; and Poinciana. Then when I got the book home and saw how well it complimented my other Real Books; I wondered why I ever hesitated. Yes; its true that volumes 1 and 2 contain a lot more of the jazz standards that you are more likely to hear and want to play; but I think this volume is a good investment for diversifying your tune selection and for an overall broadening of your jazz scope. After all; how many times can you play Autumn Leaves and All The Things You Are before you start boring your audience to tears? Jazz performers and musicians; get this book. You wont be disappointed.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Kindle - title and music on separate pages!By Michael B. MillerKindle Version: Vol. 1 is OK; but Vols. II - IV (at least) have a weird shortcoming: If you read them using the web-based reader; the title is detached from the music; so you get a page with just the title on it and a separate page with the music and no title. This seems to be true of every song from Vols. II to IV. Also; when reading on the Kindle Reader in Fire HD 8 or Android; if I enlarge a page; only the music enlarges and it then covers up the title. The title seems to be plain text while the music is a scanned image. Its different with Vol. 1 -- that is all scanned; so its like the book and it looks like the book. The title is not detached from the music.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Gotta have itBy Frito-LayWhole lot of tunes in there that youve either never heard or forgotten.
