If you can get through the very technical first couple of sections; it is a pleasure to read. All sorts of anecdotes; helpful suggestions; and scholarly advice. It is also very well-written; although the language is often ornate; but in the style of old literature. The author knows his subject like the master he is. His descriptions are concise and elegant. I already would recommend this book to an advanced singing student; and is essential for singing teachers. I wish my teacher had read it. I find myself looking forward to each oportunity I have to read more of this work.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR ANY SERIOUS VOCALIST OR TEACHER!By wolf13Im a professional singer and I found this book to be highly informative and quite entertaining...the author is witty; intelligent and not afraid to voice his opinion concerning the methodology employed by most so-called singing teachers and coaches...the truth is; most teachers and coaches in the singing field dont have a clue about the fundamentals and the mechanics of proper vocal techniques...I should know; because Ive had quite a few charlatan teachers and coaches over the years...no; this book isnt for the novice; trying to learn how to sing and the author never purports it to be...this book is for the educated professional singer and teacher and is one of the best all around books on this subject that Ive read...some reviewers found the book to be "deep"; "all talk" or "full of big words"; but others in the field; who take singing seriously; found it to be cleverly written; well researched and a very enjoyable read...its not a "how to" book; its actually a "how not to" book...
