My Journey

[DOC] My Journey by Donna Karan at Arts-Photography

Description

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was French painter; printmaker; draftsman and illustrator with enormous productivity - more than 1000 paintings; 5000 drawings; and 350 prints and posters. He suffered a debauchery and alcoholism and after mental and physical collapse died at the age of 37. His life has inspired numerous authors. His imaginary style is highly linear and gives huge accent to contour. He frequently applied the paint in long; thin brush strokes which would often leave much of the board on which they are painted showing through. Many of his works may best be described as drawings in colored paint. Although exhibitions of his paintings were not well received in his lifetime; Toulouse-Lautrec is nowadays one of the worlds most popular artists and is represented in most of the museums of Europe and the United States. He is sometimes classified as great Post-Impressionist along with Ceacute;zanne; Van Gogh and Gauguin.

Eye-opener for academics!By Katie Stahl-KovellSrinivasan takes on the transnational Indian dancing body to crack-open labor--specifically undocumented labor. Her archival work visibilizes people and their labor that was previously invisible. Srinivasans archival work is brilliantly woven into her ethnographic analyses as a practitioner and as an observer of Indian dance.Read this! By far--this is the most brilliant piece of ethnographic work I have read this year! Enjoy!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Riveting readBy CustomerPriya Srinivasan brilliantly traces the influence of Indian nautch girls and more on American modern dance and mines gems from archives dating back to the 1880. I have been raving about this to my academic colleagues --anyone who is interested in dance history; Indian diaspora; gender studies; performance arts (the list goes on!); will love this.
