This is the first book to give such close attention to Le Corbusiers approach to the making of buildings. It illustrates the ways in which Le Corbusiers details were expressive of his overall philosophical intentions. It is not a construction book in the usual sense- rather it focusses on the meaning of detail; on the ways in which detail informs the overall architectural narrative of a building. Well illustrated and containing several specially prepared scaled drawings it acts as timely reminder to both students and architects of the possibilities inherent in the most small scale tectonic gestures.

I usually rely on others reviews but decided to take a chance on this as the cover and title piqued my interest. This book is easily the worse book on the subject I have seen. The illustrations are all black and white sketches by the author. The drawings are incredibly amateurish and superficial and the written material is basic. The only mystery here is that someone would find it worthwhile to publish.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This is my favourite of EJ Golds art booksBy Andrew BishopMysteries of Still Life discusses drawing. painting and composition in a clear. applicable way that Ive never seen anywhere else. The chapter on drapery is especially valuable. since the topic is overlooked in most art schools today. I have read this book several times and always learn something new. The full lesson of Mysteries of Still Life unfolds through repeated readings and practice. This is my favourite of EJ Golds art books. and will particularly benefit those who have worked with his other material such as Draw Good Now.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
