Many of the worlds greatest dramas have sprung not only from the creative impulses of the authors but also from the time-honored principles of structure and design that have forged those impulses into coherent and powerful insights. An understanding of these principles is essential to the craft of creating and interpreting works of drama for the stage or screen. The Architecture of Drama provides an introduction to these principles; with particular emphasis placed on how a dramas structural elements fit together to create meaningful and entertaining experiences for audiences. The book is arranged into five sections; each dealing with a separate component:middot;Plot (the selection and arrangement of events in the story)middot;Character (the choices and actions taken by the people in the plot)middot;Theme (the artists point of view on the topic addressed)middot;Style (the characteristic mode through which the drama expresses itself)middot;Genre (the type of story being presented) Through a range of examples from Oedipus Rex to The Wizard of Oz; the authors examine these structural building blocks both separately and in their interdependent relationship to one another. Along the way they also illustrate how these principles reflect the innate human need for comprehension and order. The Architecture of Drama provides an accessible; straightforward insight for anyone who seeks a deeper understanding of plays and films.

Great referenceBy WisnicIm a low-income college student and bought this in lieu of the 90 dollar full size NKBA books (I use those at the library as needed). I use this book pretty constantly. and will likely continue to do so until Ive committed all of these measurements to memory. Its 50 pages or so... concise and without much flowery language. Theres a glossary in the front to get to the height of the toilet paper roll within a few lines of reading. The graphic design is *ok*... but I dont know that theres any competition or reason to design it into anything other than a handy reference.Worth every penny.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. but also gives best practices for exceeding the code to make for a ...By MikeyPThis is a very handy book if youre looking for a quick summary of both minimum code values when remodeling your kitchen or bath. but also gives best practices for exceeding the code to make for a functional kitchen or if you need to account for increased accessibility needs. Ive also reviewed the full NKBA textbook for Kitchen Planning and while people that really like a lot of information may enjoy (the heft of) that book. I think this book of cliff notes will work well for most people contemplating a remodel.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Remodeling a kitchen or bathroom?
