What resonated about Endtroducing when it was released in 1996; and what makes it still resonate today; is the way in which it loosens itself from the mooring of the known and sails off into an uncharted territory that seems to exist both in and out of time. Josh Davis is not only a master sampler and turntablist supreme; he is also a serious archeologist with a world-thirsty passion (what Cut Chemist refers to as Joshs "spidey sense") for seeking out; uncovering and then ripping apart the discarded graces of some other generation - that "pile of broken dreams" - and weaving them back together into a tapestry of chronic bleakness and beauty.Over the course of several long conversations with Josh Davis (DJ Shadow); we learn about his early years in California; the friends and mentors who helped him along the way; his relationship with MoWax and James Lavelle; and the genesis and creation of his widely acknowledged masterpiece; Endtroducing.

ClarkA really delightful memoir by a major opera star whose recorded performances still delight today. Christa Ludwig is unusally frank about her early difficulties with high notes and she even explains why; in her recording of Verdis Macbeth she does not take the high D-flat at the end of the sleepwalking scenemdash;something reviewers had noted as a disappointment. The singers personality comes across in this informal but informative story of her career. Opera lovers should not miss this confection.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Reminiscences of a World-class SingerBy Pete449A wonderful memoir. True-to-life description of being a teenager during Hitlerrsquo;s Germany and the War; being bombed out; the privations; the impossibility of opposing the Nazis in any way. There are numerous interesting chapters on her personal life; the problems and lifestyles of singers; the bad aspects revealed in abundance; the demands of her gift; the eventual yearning and gratefulness to be free from it all. Her intelligence and personality are revealed; sometimes inadvertently; in this excellent telling of her own life. Would that we all attained such self-knowledge and had the ability to express it.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Highly recommended.
