Seinen Arbeitsethos fasst Gerda Breuer kurz und knapp zusammen: Einfachheit; Ehrlichkeit; Konzentration auf den Wert der Arbeit sowie der Erhalt der Freude beim schouml;pferischen Prozess. Dabei orientierte er sich an Vorbildern wie der Prauml;raffaelitischen Bruderschaft; John Ruskin und A.W.N. Pugin; die einen neuen; auf die soziologische Ebene ausgeweiteten Kunstbegriff entwickelten. Im Gegensatz zu den genannten Vorbildern blieb Morris nicht in den theoretischen Vorstellungen uuml;ber eine Eingliederung der Kunst in den Alltag jedes Menschen verhaftet; sondern versuchte sich an deren Realisierung. In der Entwicklung des Gesamtkunstwerkes; bei dem jedes Detail aufeinander abgestimmt und einer Funktion unterworfen ist; nahm der Reformator den etwa 50 Jahre spauml;ter entstandenen Begriff bdquo;form follows functionldquo; des Amerikaners Louis Sullivan vorweg.Diese Arbeit wird zunauml;chst einen Abriss der allgemeinen Forschungslage zu William Morris und der Arts and Crafts-Bewegung geben; ohne dabei den Anspruch der Vollstauml;ndigkeit erheben zu wollen. Anschlieszlig;end soll der historische Hintergrund der Bewegung beleuchtet werden. Es folgen ihre Vorbilder sowie Prinzipien und Ziele. Daran anknuuml;pfend werden William Morris und sein Werk behandelt; mit besonderem Augenmerk auf dem bdquo;Red Hou-seldquo;; der Firma bdquo;Morris; Marshall; Faulkner Co.ldquo; sowie der bdquo;Kelmscott Pressldquo;.

It is straight forward and short. It doesnt get too complicated; but falls more on the lines of "gems of wisdom". The art is inspiring of course; but i think this book isnt just for the comics geek. This is about the life and attitude of being an artist. Im sure Alfredo Alcala will inspire you.
