Navajo and Hopi Art in Arizona: Continuing Traditions

[ebooks] Navajo and Hopi Art in Arizona: Continuing Traditions by Rory O'Neill Schmitt PhD in Arts-Photography

Description

The tombs and graves of the St. Louis Cemeteries rise from the ground; creating labyrinthine memorials aptly dubbed cities of the dead. Most are in even rows with quaint street names. Some are of crumbling brick and broken marble. Others are miniature mansions clad in decorative ironwork with angelic guardians. Grand or humble; each is a relic of the story of New Orleans. Politicians; pirates; Mardi Gras Indian chiefs and one voodoo queen rest below. In an unprecedented inquiry; author Sally Asher reveals the lives within the mysterious and majestic tombs of the St. Louis Cemeteries.

A Listeners GuideBy Song LinesThis is great to put on your iPad Kindle; so that you can go back and forth between the compositions Giddens describes and the YouTube performance. The dated sound of jazz from the decades before your own time can be hard to appreciate; but Giddens gets you past your prejudices; by telling you what to listen for; whether a great solo; an important innovation; or the characteristic brand of a given artist. I started out reading straight through; but realized that without listening to some of the music; I was missing the point.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Superb overviewBy G. GardnerIve collected and read about jazz for almost forty years; and I still learned things from this wonderful collection of essays. Whether you are new to jazz and want to learn about it; or an old hand who enjoys a fresh take on established figures; you wont be disappointed. Giddens is the best jazz writer alive today. Highly recommended.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Americas Classical MusicBy Stan ShepardThis is one of the most detailed analysis of the story of jazz and the people who created Americas initial; original music. I recommend this book highly. Keep it close by when you have a question about a jazz artist or what the time was like when they were on the scene.
