How does the production of performance engage with the fundamental issues of our advanced neo-capitalist age? Andreacute; Lepecki surveys a decade of experimental choreography to uncover the dual meaning of lsquo;performancersquo; in the twenty-first century: not just an aesthetic category; but a mode of political power. He demonstrates the enduring ability of performance to critique and subvert this power; examining this relationship through five lsquo;singularitiesrsquo; in contemporary dance: thingness; animality; persistence; darkness; and solidity.Exploring the works of Mette Ingvartsen; Yvonne Rainer; Ralph Lemon; Jeacute;rocirc;me Bel and others; Lepecki uses his concept of lsquo;singularityrsquo;mdash;the resistance of categorization and aesthetic identificationmdash;to examine the function of dance and performance in political and artistic debate.

He has had a fascinating life and it was hard to stop reading this book because of the adventures encounters he had with THE great singers and musicians of that era. I would have liked to know more about how he decided to be a therapist and that journey. but he does stick to his coming of age in the music industry. I particularly enjoyed his descriptions about sound engineering. and how that is an art of its own - each engineer creates unique touches that distinct themselves apart. A good read!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Exciting and emotionally compelling!By SharonI often wish I had been able to experience New York Cityrsquo;s music scene in the 1970rsquo;s. Reading Glenn Bergerrsquo;s Never Say No to a Rock Star allowed me to feel like a fly on the wall during some of the hottest and funkiest recording sessions at AR studios during that time. Bergerrsquo;s depth of understanding and appreciation for the synergistic alchemy that happens between the studios staff and some of the greatest artists and musicians of our time is extraordinary. The intimate stories that are told in this book have given some of my favorite songs by Jagger. Sinatra and Simon a whole new dimension and feel. Thank you Glenn for writing such an exciting and emotionally compelling memoir!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Say yes to this bookBy santo mollicaI thought this would be a gossip filled tome detailing all the worst habits of the rock gods. Instead its really a coming of age story set in the top level recording world of New York in the 70s . inhabited by all the a list artists mentioned in the title. Berger tells you his story from the inside out and you feel like youre there with him. A good read that goes down easy. Worth the time.
