Nick Cave: Sinner Saint: The True Confessions

[PDF] Nick Cave: Sinner Saint: The True Confessions by Mat Snow at Arts-Photography

Description

Using a broad definition of the Durkheimian tradition; this book offers the first systematic attempt to explore the Durkheimians engagement with art. It focuses on both Durkheim and his contemporaries as well as later thinkers influenced by his work. The first five chapters consider Durkheims own exploration of art; the remaining six look at other Durkheimian thinkers; including Marcel Mauss; Henri Hubert; Maurice Halbwachs; Claude Leacute;vi-Strauss; Michel Leiris; and Georges Bataille. The contributors-scholars from a range of theoretical orientations and disciplinary perspectives-are known for having already produced significant contributions to the study of Durkheim. This book will interest not only scholars of Durkheim and his tradition but also those concerned with aesthetic theory and the sociology and history of art.

Something is amissBy HellseekerI have read too much "true confessions" (especially about musicians) created by people who have no clue about the creative force these people are channeling. So. since Im a big fan of Nick Cave. that book was a major disappointment for me. Im not interested if the person was stoned out of his mind during an interview. or if any kind of other "indecent" behavior was witnessed. To publish such observations is only to serve the public need for tabloid news. On the other hand we had the ever present pseudo philosophical nonsense some people write down. when they are in the presence of a true genius. So please look some place else for real insight into the artist Nick Cave. I should have known it better when a book title contains the words "true" and "confession" that something might be amiss here.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great for fans. a bit difficult as a essay sourceBy AlgirdasI bought this for my girlfriend whos writing her bachelor essay about Nick Caves first novel as a info source. As a fan of him. shes loving it: the pictures are great. the interviews are from different year. containing different topics and different thoughts. The only minus of this book is its hard to use it as a source for the essay. as it doesnt have an index in the back: as only information about the novel is needed (and theres not a lot of it in the book). its a bit time-consuming to read the whole book to find the pieces needed. Still we recommend it to every Caves fan out there: it really opens up the mind of the creator. letting you know the personality a lot better than you would from his music. novels and public behaviour.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Solid interviews spanning his career.By paulaI liked this book. Slow in areas. but very good interviews and it kind of shows his change in attitude through out the years. Worth the read if youre a Bad Seeds/Grinderman fan. Good stuff.
