Intermediate-level pieces for the lover of jazz/classic piano worksBy The bookishThe bulk of the pieces in this collection can be played by a pianist of intermediate abilities (a nice gift from the composer Dave Brubeck). If you listen to the Nocturnes recording played by John Salmon. you WILL notice he improvises away from the score of each piece in this anthology (or. at minimum. improvises noticeably on SOME of them). But. overall. you can make these miniatures delightful even if you play them literally as is from the score. They are delicate. they are nuanced. they are often sparse and arguably simple. This particular group of pieces are easy to play. yet dont sound like baby pieces.
