Clearly the author has done detailed and thorough research on the 50 courthouses in Central Texas. I have always been fascinated buy the various architectural similarities - and differences - among the historical structures that sit boldly on town squares; reminding us of a time past. Each courthouse has a deep and lasting meaning for residents that pass by them on a regular basis; but to many of us who only get a fleeting glimpse on a weekend road trip; the content of this book opens a new perspective on the various buildings over the years. Texas has a rich history; and this book takes aim at revealing the architectural aspect of that history. I have a whole new perspective now as I revisit and view these noble structures and the towns that are seemingly built around them.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Terrific; Compelling AnalysisBy TSimiThis beautiful catalogue is wonderful record of a building type thats a fixture in central Texas. I loved the story of how these came to be and how the represent a unique moment in history. Hightower does a fantastic job with the illustrations - you can compare the size and design of each building since theyre all drawn at the same scale. Its interesting how memory of a place obscures the objective differences between the courthouses.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
