Contemporary art can be baffling and beautiful; provocative and disturbing. This pioneering book presents a new look at the controversial period between 1945 and 2000; when art and its traditional forms were called into question. It focuses on the relationship between American and European art; and challenges previously held views about the origins of some of the most innovative ideas in art of this time.Major artists such as Jackson Pollock; Jasper Johns; Yves Klein; Andy Warhol; Louise Bourgeois; Cindy Sherman; and Damien Hirst are all discussed; as is the art world of the last fifty years. Important trends are also covered including Abstract Expressionism; Pop Art; Minimalism; Conceptualism; Postmodernism; and the art of the nineties.

I own an absolutely frightening stash of beads and other components; so I was thrilled to find finished pieces in "Jewelry Inspirations" that showed me possible uses for many of my inventory items. Of the books 1000 photos I bookmarked at least 90 for future reference. No; this is not a "how-to" book. There are no instructions or materials lists for the projects. But if youve ever experienced "beaders block"; when a beautiful component stubbornly refuses to tell you what it wants; this book should kick-start your creativity. And if I cant figure out how to make something Ive bookmarked Ill refer to a book or magazine from my jewelry-making library.I do agree that the book contains some duplicate photos; where some items are included in more than one category; so perhaps the author did cheat just a little bit.Id bet that many of this books critical reviews reflected the preferences of the reviewer. I did note the absence of dainty; girly crystal pieces; but I didnt miss them at all since they dont appeal to me. To each his/her own!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. fabulous bookBy MichelleLove this book. I needed inspiration and this is it!!!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This book is FOR inspiration....By CustomerWhile some may not have liked; saying it only had average designs; I found that it sparked some ideas for ME! It isnt meant to be a pattern book or things for you to copy exactly---it is to give you that "spark" for something you may not have considered previously. I feel like the book does that. If I wanted a pattern to copy exactly I would log into 1 of the beading magazines or buy additional books about a certain type of beading/metalwork. This is for inspiration and it does that. Who wants to wear the exact same thing as everyone else anyways? Not me....Im unique and like to keep it that way--all my work is UNIQUE as well. I do recommend this especially if you are having some sort of "block" :)
