(Banjo). There are two ways to approach writing a cookbook and this goes for cooking food and cooking up some great music. One way is to give you a bunch of recipes and tell you; "Heres how to make this dish; or heres how to play this tune." Another way is to teach you how to cook. In other words; by providing you with techniques for mixing flavors; the knowledge of when; where; and how to apply heat; and ideas on how to add your own touches; you can make the dish or the tune your own. This book takes the second path. The goal of this book isnt to tell you how to play tunes or how to play like anyone else. Its to teach you ways to approach; arrange; and personalize any tune to develop your own unique style. To that end; well take in a healthy serving of old-time music and also expand the clawhammer palate to taste a few other musical styles. The audio contains demos of all the songs and examples to aid in the learning process.

Good Christmas material for any size groupBy Jim Ziegler "Zig"The Yamaha method books have been on the market for some time; but I find them to be quite good; especially this collection of Christmas songs in three parts. This is a nice collection of tunes; which includes the usual favorites ( Silent Night; Hark The Herald Angels Sing ); as well as some rarely played but great melodies ( Lo; How A Rose and In The Bleak Mid Winter ). The flexible scoring makes them easy to use as duets; trios; or with mixed ensembles of various instrumentation; which I tend to have in my teaching situation. The print quality is excellent; making them easy to read. There is also a good variety in key signature use as well.
