Description

Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition); as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits; maps; sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images; so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts; we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

The Fears of a ClownBy Robert CarlbergChris Welchs bio of Bonzo frontman Vivian Stanshall is well-researched; well-written and provides a pretty straightforward chronological account of Vivs life. Stanshall was extravagant in all dimensions (except weight) with an oversize ego; an oversize talent and a life which often strained credulity. His "ups" were higher than most normal human beings are allowed to go; and his "downs" were lower. Welch covers both with equal gravity. Where opinions about him are stated -- and Viv was nothing if not "love-him-or-hate-him" -- Welch is careful to balance both pro and con. What emerges is a portrait of an artist who fought self-doubt with wit and outrageousness; a man who tried but was never quite of this world; a rare peacock among the pigeons. With such a mercurial and flighty subject; the book is remarkably civil and accommodating. The revelation that Warner Brothers is sitting on 88 completed Stanshall tracks; over 3-1/2 hours of unreleased material; is heartbreaking.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellent biography of a true originalBy Urban SpacemanThis is an excellent bibliography of one of my favorite performers. I became a fan of the Bonzo Dog Band the first time I heard The Intro and The Outro on a college radio station in the 70s. This book tells the often hilarious and sometimes sad story of the life of that bands founder; Vivian Stanshall. If you are a fan of the Bonzos or of British humor; I highly recommend this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A remarkable man with a troubled lifeBy RobrtA difficult book to read as we see Vivian Stanshalls life lose focus and control. But it provides a wealth of information about a fascinating man of genius
