This new book explores how the professions responsible for enhancing the built environments sustainability seek to deliver this new agenda; offering multi-perspective case studies and discussion to argue for a rethinking of the role of urban development professional. Showing how sustainability is rapidly becoming the norm for practitioners; the authors consider new types of professional knowledge; relationships between planning systems and property development; links between public and private sector organisations; ideas about long term responsibilities and new working practices for engaging with the public.

A good overview of the area but missing some of the major fixtures of the neighborhoods.By Walt GroganOver all its a very good book with plenty of photos for readers to enjoy! I particularly enjoyed the photo of Jareks Drug store as I worked there in my teens. I would have loved to read a bit about the old Club El Bianco restaurant which was a fixture on 63rd for many years. It was certainly popular among the locals and it attracted Hollywood stars who had layovers at Midway Airport. I also would have liked more photos of the storefronts along 63rd Street but I suspect that those were hard to come by. I was a bit disappointed with the very small amount of attention given to St. Rita Church as it is a huge draw for the Catholics in the area and an impressive site on 63rd Street. Still; all in all; its a very nice book to add to my collection.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. InterestingBy DEWIt was interesting finding out the history of the neighborhood where I grew up. I went to Eberhart Grammer school and was in the first class of Hubbard high school but had to finish high school at Lindblom. Marquette Park was a great place to go and have fun.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. FANTASTIC for a select subsetBy sppoooI dont know that most people will find this book interesting; but for those with a connection to the neighborhood ITS FANTASTIC. How wonderful is it to have a book that looks at a small area in such depth? I marveled at the photos and the evolution of the neighborhood; and developed a much greater appreciation of how it came to be. For myself and my family; with roots in Chicago Lawn; its a fantastic find.
