0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent biography of a little-known major architect.By David ArbogastThis is a relatively brief biography of one of Britains most significant late Victorian architects who. as the author states. had two most unfortunate circumstances. First. he disdained self-promotion and. therefore. left amazingly little record of his accomplishments which were actually quite significant. and second. his accomplishments were in a field of architecture. education. which has been generally overlooked as not being worthy of the exalted term. Architecture. Not helping matters at all was the rise of the Modern Movement which did its level best to trash the reputations and demolish the works of their predecessors. Fortunately. we now have this excellent biography which helps to rectify his reputation. Unfortunately. the publisher. having apparently decided that this is a boring book that needs visual pizzazz. decided to put it in a vivid violet dust jacket. Fortunately. the dust jacket can be dispensed with and the book can shine forth in all its glory.
