Paperbacks from Hell: The Twisted History of '70s and '80s Horror Fiction

[ePub] Paperbacks from Hell: The Twisted History of '70s and '80s Horror Fiction by Grady Hendrix at Arts-Photography

Description

After 89 takes as its subject the dynamic new range of performance practices that have been developed since the demise of communism in the flourishing theatrical landscape of Poland. After 1989; the theatre has retained its historical role as the crucial space for debating and interrogating cultural and political identities. Providing access to scholarship and criticism not readily accessible to an English-speaking readership; this study surveys the rebirth of the theatre as a site of public intervention and social criticism since the establishment of democracy and the proliferation of theatre makers that have flaunted cultural commonplaces and begged new questions of Polish culture. Lease argues that the most significant change in performance practice after 1989 has been from opposition to the state to a more pluralistic practice that engages with marginalised identities purposefully left out of the rhetoric of freedom and independence.

Highly exceeded my expectations!By Lost in the CrowdThis book is totally immersive from the get-go. The illustrations are stunning. I am so impressed I actually had to take a few pictures and include them with my review. On is of the inside of the paperback dust jacket. one is of the table of contents and one is just a random page from the book itself.I am a huge horror buff whether it be fiction book or in movie form. it does not matter to me.....if I need to watch it Ill watch it. if I need to read it Ill read it. What this book has done is give me a million more ideas of things that I need to reserve on that I feel like Ive missed out on because I wasnt really into fiction at a young age back in the 70s and in the 80s. In fact some of these books have actually been turned into video games and movies like "The Guardians" was turned into a video game. "Jaws" was turned into a movie so was "The Amityville Horror". "The Omen" and so many more including some gothic horror and my personal favorite book (and movie) of all time "Flowers in the Attic" by VC Andrews. I dont want to give it all away or spoil it so Im not going to tell you about any of the others listed because I want you to read this book. If I sound excited it is because I am. I am very very pleased!Im sitting here watching my husband go through this book like hes never seen anything this interesting or exciting before in his life. Even if youre not a big reader. the illustrations will just suck you right in. literally they are THAT good! (Sidenote: my husband is not much of a reader but he does like horror movies.) That says a lot about this book. Im not familiar with the author but I will be now.I have to give this 5 stars because this book is awesome. It has opened up a whole new world for me. a totally separate area of horror that I did not know existed because I was so young when most of these books were published!A VERY exceptional read. if you are horror buff please do not miss out on this opportunity! WOW!
