How did I end up here? A question Elaine C. Smith asked herself when sitting in the dressing-room of a top theatre in Londons West End; about to go on stage with one of the UKs most successful plays. In Nothing Like a Dame; Elaine reflects on a 50-year journey that took her to the peak of the entertainment world. She recounts her long struggle to make it in a male-dominated; working-class society when women were supposed to just shut up and stay thin; especially in the sexist world of theatre and television; where she was told; Look; women just arent funny.Despite many highs and lows; she proceeded to forge a stellar career in show business; hosting her own TV series and becoming a household name thanks to her comic portrayal of Mary Nesbitt; the long-suffering wife in the award-winning BBC comedy Rab C. Nesbitt.Nothing Like a Dame is a heart-warming memoir: candid; outspoken; hilarious and at times deeply sad.

Its 140 pages. but the first waterfall from the western side of the state comes on page 119. Ive been able to locate several falls using internet sources that are not covered in this book. The coverage of the falls that are in the book includes directions. an occasional photo. and a fairly detailed description of the featured fall. The directions and details make the book worth a look. Im just disappointed by the lack of coverage of the falls on the western side of the state.Update: I sounded a little critical in my original review. and I apologize to the author for that. The book IS in fact a great exploration of the waterfalls in Pennsylvania: great descriptions of the falls. very thorough directions. photography advice and a description of the technique the author used. Some very handy informaiton.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great collection of scenic hikes for adventure-planningBy S. IrelandBought this for my husband for Christmas because because I thought it would be fun to plan some day trips. Most enjoyable so far has been Ricketts Glen. Cant wait to explore more of the waterfall hikes!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Where is Freedom Falls?By UserFreedom Falls on Shull Run is inexplicably omitted from this otherwise excellent book. The author is very wise in the ways of photographing water falls.[ It seems counterintuitive. but you shoot the best pics when its cloudy.] But he left out the aforesaid Freedom Falls by the old Freedom Iron Furnace in Venango County near Rockland Tunnel on the Rails-to-Trails. Thats my favorite falls. And its right by the Allegheny River. But numerous other falls and cascades from the Keystone State are located and most of them are illustrated.
