Perform; Repeat; Record: Live Art in History

[audiobook] Perform; Repeat; Record: Live Art in History by Heathfield Adrian Jones Amelia in Arts-Photography

Description

New Russian Drama began its rise at the end of the twentieth century; following a decline in dramatic writing in Russia that stemmed back to the 1980s. Authors Beumers and Lipovetsky examine the representation of violence in these new dramatic works penned by young Russian playwrights. Performing Violence is the first English-language study of the consequent boom in drama and why this new breed of authors were writing fierce plays; whilst previous generations had preferred poetry and prose. Since 1999 numerous festivals of new Russian drama have taken place; which have brought international recognition to such playwrights as the Presnyakov brothers; Evgeni Grishkovets and Vasili Sigarev. At the same time; young stage directors and new theatres also emerged. New Russian Drama is therefore one of a few artistic and cultural phenomena shaped entirely in the post-Soviet period and this book investigates the violent portrayal of identity crisis of the generation as represented by theatre. Reflecting the disappointment in Yeltsinrsquo;s democratic reforms and Putinrsquo;s neo-conservative politics; the focus is on political and social representations of violence; its performances and justifications. Performing Violence seeks a vantage point for the analysis of brutality in post-Soviet culture. It is a key text for students of theatre; drama; Russian studies; culture and literature.

Juicy; full of life; amazing; how-to and inspirational mixed media art book!By nicoleI have been looking forward to this book for a long time and it has finally arrived! This art book is more than a how-to; it also provides many inspiring stories and artwork from the author and other contributing artists (including a lot of my favorites like Jesse Reno; Juliette Crane; Lisa Sonora Beam; Judy Wise; Laurie Mika; Orly Avineri; just to name a few--seriously ALL of the artists in this book are very talented and amazing!) The book is the perfect balance of how-to (step-by-step with detailed photos and instructions--I am a visual learner; so this was very important to me) with a lot of fun prompts and assignments sprinkled throughout by the author and the other artists. The stories are all very personal; interesting; inspirational; and will provide you with a lot of insight into the art making process from a technical as well as an almost spiritual perspective. The author has really poured her heart and soul into this book. I feel like I will use this book throughout my own artful journey as it is a book you can return to again and again for ideas and inspiration. The book isnt just about making artwork; it is also about discovering the voice inside of you; the one that will tell your own personal and unique story through the art that you will make. And you will be inspired to do something new and daring even if all you do is just open the book to one random page and absorb the visuals and take in the honest and thoughtful writing on the page.72 of 74 people found the following review helpful. Discovering your story and your artistryBy Terri ChurchillIf youre looking for an art book that will provide some techniques; you wont be disappointed; but thats not primarily what Tracys book is trying to accomplish. Artists are not primarily technicians; they are story-tellers who use color and line to speak. Tracy has gathered a tribe of artists who together are telling stories that youll want to attend to slowly so that you can notice your own story emerging. Dont be impatient with what you find here. The stories cant be separated from the art without doing violence to your tender heart.I received my copy of Paint Mojo when they first began mailing them; but I didnt really begin to dig in until I traveled North to the Boundary Waters area of Minnesota. There; I began savoring every page. And as I turned the pages; and swallowed the color and line and pain and joy; images began to wake up in me. I have never been more prolific as I have been since I began walking with this little companion at the beginning of this week.Thank you Tracy. From the bottom of my heart; thank you.23 of 25 people found the following review helpful. Overflowing with inspiration joyBy chrisYour book touched my creative spirit. I now understand how to bring out what is held within. I relished every word nodding in agreement and smiling at recognizing myself. Written with such generosity and honesty. I saw little parts of myself - why I collect stuff - shells; stones;feathers;flowers;papers; photos; pretty things and fabric of course. These things all memories of moments in time - my clutter they call it; but things which take me instantly to a time or place. I now see how to use them to paint these moments. Thank you Tracy for showing me where to begin. Every page filled with beautiful;soulful gorgeousness and practical exercises and projects. It made me smile; it made me cry; it made me wonder at the magic of possibilities. Not just a paint how to but also food for the soul. A friend found tho never met. Yes I loved the book. #shefliesalone
