Phyto: Principles and Resources for Site Remediation and Landscape Design

[audiobook] Phyto: Principles and Resources for Site Remediation and Landscape Design by Kate Kennen; Niall Kirkwood at Arts-Photography

Description

Photography became a dominant medium in cultural life starting in the late nineteenth century. As it happened; viewers increasingly used their reactions to photographs to comment on and debate public issues as vital as war; national identity; and citizenship. Cara A. Finnegan analyzes a wealth of newspaper and magazine articles; letters to the editor; trial testimony; books; and speeches produced by viewers in response to specific photos they encountered in public. From the portrait of a young Lincoln to images of child laborers and Depression-era hardship; Finnegan treats the photograph as a locus for viewer engagement and constructs a history of photographys viewers that shows how Americans used words about images to participate in the politics of their day. As she shows; encounters with photography helped viewers negotiate the emergent anxieties and crises of U.S. public life through not only persuasion but action; as well.

Some are so similar in structure to Chopins that if you were not familiar with them you would swear that they were written by Chopin. Early critics of Chopins nocturnes pointed out the naturalness of the Field nocturnes as compared to the histrionics of Chopin; and after playing all of them from both composers I must say that I have to agree. The difficulties range in moderate to quite advanced; particularly in the earlier nocturnes that used rubato embellishments to the melody that requires one to carefully figure out the relationship to the accompaniment. These nocturnes are great preparation for Chopin; but also they are beautiful and very artistic in their own right; and will reward any pianist who takes the time to master their intricacies.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A great way to get into Romantic piano literatureBy K. B. FennerField "invented" the Nocturne; and these are masterpieces. They are easier than most of Chopins but have enchanting; haunting melodies. They are a great introduction to 19th century; Romantic *pianistic* playing--not so unachievable for someone less skilled. My one beef is that the Kalmus edition has a few obvious errors; and is cramped; unlike Henle---which does not seem to publish these.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Gorgeous music; hard to playBy Tom BloomListen to Field; its beautiful and charming; and way ahead of his time -- he was composing near to Beethovens life! Try to play the music and see how deceivingly difficult the pieces are. Great respect for the man who invented the Nocturne; Chopin learned the form from him.
