Planning for Sustainable Cities in Developing Countries

[ePub] Planning for Sustainable Cities in Developing Countries by B W Namano at Arts-Photography

Description

Cymbeline tells the story of a British king; Cymbeline; and his three children; presented as though they are in a fairy tale. The secret marriage of Cymbelinersquo;s daughter; Imogen; triggers much of the action; which includes villainous slander; homicidal jealousy; cross-gender disguise; a deathlike trance; and the appearance of Jupiter in a vision. Kidnapped in infancy; Cymbelinersquo;s two sons are raised in a Welsh cave. As young men; they rescue a starving stranger (Imogen in disguise); kill Cymbelinersquo;s stepson; and fight with almost superhuman valor against the Roman army. The king; meanwhile; takes on a Roman invasion rather than pay a tribute. He too is a familiar figuremdash;a father who loses his children and miraculously finds them years later; a king who defeats an army and grants pardon to all. Cymbeline displays unusually powerful emotions with a tremendous charge. Like some of Shakespearersquo;s other late workmdash;especially The Winterrsquo;s Tale and The Tempestmdash;it is an improbable story lifted into a nearly mythic realm. The authoritative edition of Cymbeline from The Folger Shakespeare Library; the trusted and widely used Shakespeare series for students and general readers; includes: -Freshly edited text based on the best early printed version of the play -Full explanatory notes conveniently placed on pages facing the text of the play -Scene-by-scene plot summaries -A key to the playrsquo;s famous lines and phrases -An introduction to reading Shakespearersquo;s language -An essay by a leading Shakespeare scholar providing a modern perspective on the play -Fresh images from the Folger Shakespeare Libraryrsquo;s vast holdings of rare books -An annotated guide to further reading Essay by Cynthia Marshall The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington; DC; is home to the worldrsquo;s largest collection of Shakespearersquo;s printed works; and a magnet for Shakespeare scholars from around the globe. In addition to exhibitions open to the public throughout the year; the Folger offers a full calendar of performances and programs. For more information; visit Folger.edu.

The Pendulum SwingsBy JorgeEdmund Randolph; originally from Richmond; Virginia; represented the City of San Francisco when Californias first legislature met in San Jose in December; 1849. Randolph became a State Assemblyman from San Francisco. Loyal to the town of his birth he persuaded a Federal surveying party mapping the San Francisco Bay to place the names "Point Richmond" and "Richmond" on the 1854 geodetic coast map. This was the geodetic map at the terminal selected by the San Francisco and San Joaquin Valley Railroad. By 1899 maps made by the railroad carried the name "Point Richmond Avenue". Richmond; the town and later city; was founded and incorporated in 1905; carved out of the 18;000 acre tract Rancho San Pablo. Through the first half of the 20th Century; growth of the City was slow; but; steady. The building of the Standard Oil Refinery began in 1900. Although severely damaged in the Bay Area earthquake of 1906; the Refinery was back in operation by 1907. The outbreak of the United Statess complete and total involvement in World War II in December 1941 brought the most rapid and extensive development that the area had experienced up to that time. Shipbuilding and United States Naval activities brought vast numbers of workers to the Bay Area with Richmond included. But; at the conclusion of the War; these activities quickly ceased and there were no jobs for these thousands of workers. There had also been a Ford Motor Company assembly plant; vast rail yards and a myriad of smaller businesses supporting these workplaces. It wasnt until the 1970s that growth really resumed. However; this new growth which brought the construction of the Hilltop Shopping Center; opening in 1976; practically destroyed the older original downtown core which was virtually vacant by 1986. This book tells the story of a Richmond that was and may never quite be the same again.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great bood on RichmondBy PattypcThis is my home town. I was actually given a copy of the book as a gift; but it went missing; so i had to have another.
