This hauntingly beautiful ballad along with Whiskey In The Jar belong to the most popular among the Irish folk songs and is one of the most recorded ever. The words for Danny Boy were written by English songwriter Frederic Weatherly to the Irish tune of the Londonderry Air in 1910. It is often used at funerals; considered the anthem of Irish Americans and Irish Canadians and was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics. It is famously recorded by among others Eva Cassidy; Elvis Presley; Bing Crosby; Andy Williams; Harry Connick Jr; Judy Garland; Danny Kaye; Jerry Lee Lewis; Eric Clapton; Mario Lanza; Tony Bennett and Aaron Neville. The Beatles performed the first line at the end of One After 909 during the Apple Rooftop Performance on 30 Jan. 1969.
