Playing the Piano for Pleasure: The Classic Guide to Improving Skills Through Practice and Discipline

[audiobook] Playing the Piano for Pleasure: The Classic Guide to Improving Skills Through Practice and Discipline by Charles Cooke at Arts-Photography

Description

CosenzaWritten by a professional writer (The New Yorker) who interviewed many of the great pianists in his day and an avid amateur pianist himself. the late Mr. Cookes book speaks in volumes to the amateur pianist. During his interviews with some of the great pianists he learned and shares many wonderful concepts to use in our daily practice sessions. This book was out of print from an original printing in the 1940s. It should be a classic for every player. especially those who get frustrated with their playing and need hope of becoming a wonderful player themselves. I found this book to be an inspirational page turner. enjoy this gem. its great!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. highly recommended classic ... takes the pain out of practice by making it very effective ...By Kim LIt gets pretty detailed at times. but it is an excellent book for anyone who values their time yet wants to make good progress on the piano. I would presume that even someone bent on attaining the professional level would benefit from this approach to practice. It really taught me to not fear any part of a piece. In fact. it taught me how to attack the hardest parts to smooth out the piece with much less effort than just playing it through a zillion times. What amazes me is how fast memorization takes place using this method. I think of my late-middle-aged memory as sieve-like. yet I have pretty much fully memorized two pieces in only a month and a half (one small part left to perfect in Beethovens Minuet in G.) I can see how well this extrapolates to larger pieces.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. If you buy one book. make it this one.By Mary AshbyI have probably 20 books on piano and music. and this is by far my favorite. If you play the piano. even a little. this book will inspire you to return to it as to a great love. I have given it as a gift to others. and they in turn pass it on again. If you only buy one book on the piano. make it this one. You wont regret it. I have read and re-read it probably four times at least. It never gets old. never fails to inspire. And it simply makes me smile and PLAY.
