Poison's Dark Works in Renaissance England

[DOC] Poison's Dark Works in Renaissance England by Miranda Wilson in Arts-Photography

Description

This ebook would be good for younger readers....By ElizabethThere are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99cent;. You cant really go wrong with the books offered for free. There is a variety of subjects covered and most of the books follow about the same format. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book. This particular book is a very basic ebook with a simple format. It has the name of the author and some information about them. Some of the most famous works are mentioned but not for every author. For example; F. Scott Fitzgerald; Edgar Alan Poe; and Nathaniel Hawthorne all have pages but their most famous works arent mentioned. I also think this book is for younger readers as well but it is a nice simple introduction to famous authors.Anyway; overall; I do like the books in this series for their wonderful pictures. It would be nice if the books went into more detail but they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject.I plan on keeping these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I sometimes watch a friends 3 year old daughter and she likes to look through the pictures on my phone. I plan on showing her these books to keep her entertained. I think she will love them.***** I received this ebook for free in exchange for my honest review. *****0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This is a good book that I could give to my child as ...By J. H.This is a good book that I could give to my child as a guideline of what classical novels she should read. I know most of the authors in this book; and I will agree that they are the greatest; and very important in depicting the history of the United States through their novels and stories. This is how I learned a lot about history of the US; as I grew up in a different country; and didnt take US history as a course in my studies; so reading this literature was quite useful. I think the book is a nice short list to give to kids; but it is not very extensive. This book also does not contain anything that I couldnt find myself through a very quick search online. Now you need to provide a bit more value to readers if you are charging money for your books. Luckily; I didnt pay for the book; and read it for free; but I wouldnt pay for this book if I were to given a choice of buying it - it has nothing novel about it; nothing that you cant find already available everywhere. You could get a list just like this one in any library in the US; just ask your local librarian for a suggested list.Sample was provided free of charge for reading and a review.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A good foundation for introducing mature bodies of work.By ShanibleI have previously purchased 5th Grade American History: American Presidents: Fifth Grade Books US Presidents for Kids (Childrens US Presidents First Ladies); 5th Grade Geography: Seas and Oceans of the World: Fifth Grade Books Marine Life and Oceanography for Kids (Childrens Oceanography Books); and 5th Grade Us History: Famous US Inventors: Fifth Grade Books Inventors for Kids (Childrens Inventors Books) from Baby Professor. Out of all of them; this is my personal favorite. My advance kindergartener really enjoyed this one as well. The facts are presented in a well formed; easy to follow manner. She understandably had difficulty reading a few of their larger vocabulary words like "Renaissance" and "Transcendentalist"; but that was perfect for us because it then opened the discussion of what those words were and what they encompassed. I was highly pleased that the ebook contained details like philosophies generated by or surrounding the author in questions work. Each page includes a picture or painting of the author being discussed. The use of scrolls as the background for names and information on the authors is a nice touch. The details are not overly showy; allowing for the main focus to be on the information itself and not the "pretty pictures" I have seen in other books.I am a little curious about the addition of Benjamin Franklin to the list of authors. The ebook gives a detail stating; "He became wealthy publishing Poor Richards Almanack and The Pennsylvania Gazette." This detail bothered me a bit. It almost feels as though the actual works are being downplayed here. I would have liked to see a mention of any of the still often quoted "Poor Richards Proverbs"; the adages from this almanac being mentioned.Out of the 14 authors featured in this ebook; only one is a female. While it is good that at least one woman is represented here; I think it strange that would be Harriet Beecher Stowe. I would have expected Louisa May Alcott or even Emily Dickinson to have made the list. Not intending to mean that one author is more deserving than the other; I feel Stowe is intended for an older audience. Alcott and Dickinson are both on the reading list for 6th grade Literature where I live; but Stowe isnt discussed until 8th or 9th. Being that my daughter is in Kindergarten and this ebook was intended for 5th grade level students; I understand the concepts discussed in regards to the ebooks mentioned title; "Uncle Toms Cabin"; were likely beyond her fathoming. I was however thrilled every title the ebook mentions my child followed the lead and asked questions about the work. This ebook was definitely the most informative and best all around of the Baby Professor line that I have purchased. It is shorter than I would like; but overall quite enjoyable for my child. I am doubtful any of the ebooks will be requested to be read by my daughter again; but that does not take away from my satisfaction of the conversations this ebook propagated. This ebook is a good start for most school age children and if you are looking for something to jumpstart an interest in the written word; this is a good first step. It includes a few great authors that I had not previously had in the front of my mind to try with my child.I received this book without compensation; but with a discount using my iPhone to read the ebook. I had no problem at all getting it to load using the kindle app. It displayed instantly after purchasing and loaded in landscape mode. The discount in no way altered my opinion and I was not asked to give a good review in return. I am also not associated with the seller or publisher in any way.
