Modernist debates about waste - both aesthetic and economic - often express biases against gender and sexual errancy. The Poetics of Waste looks at writers and artists who resist this ideology and respond by developing an excessive poetics.

Useless on the subject of bridge rehabBy KylerI have been an bridge engineer for several years and I purchased this book because I thought it would help me with a rehab project I am currently working on. I was very disappointed with the quality of this book. There is absolutely no detail of any subject; just a bunch of very obvious recommendations that the author makes. Also; there is no transition between subjects in each chapter; and a lot of the topics are incorrectly categorized. Pictures and vague diagrams are randomly inserted into the text with little or no relevance to the text. The only examples provided are of LRFD calculation; which are very poorly organized. Rehabilitation techniques are broadly explained; but no IMPLEMENTATION of any rehab design is explained anywhere. No where in the book does it describe how to detail a steel repair (size of repair plates; bolt spacing; etc); or evaluate whether a defect needs to be repaired. For lack of a better term; there is just a bunch of "fluff" in each chapter. For example; the chapter on Conventional Repair Methods doesnt even describe one repair method in detail. It gives a bunch of background info on administration and inspection procedures (which have already been covered in previous chapters). Some of the text does not make sense at all and seems to be arbitrarily inserted. Under the section "Constructability Review" (which Im not sure is doing in the Conventional Repair Chapter) there is text that reads "Staged construction shown on the attached sketch will maintain uninterrupted traffic flow.." and "Coordination with any adjacent contracts is essential to the success of this project.." but there is no "sketch" or "project" in the context of these statements. At first; I thought it might have been describing some case study but I went through the surrounding text and it seems as though this section was just crudely copied from some other material.I have an MS in engineering and this is by far the worst engineering book I have ever come across. I am very skeptical of the other reviews.2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Civil EngineeringBy invision engineersFirst of all there are not many books on the subject of rehabilitation. This new book by Mohiuddin Khan is based on latest AASHTO LRFD Code and is worth reading. In India or Pakistan; like in USA both engineers and students will find this book as useful. It will help Highway Agencies in asset management; making existing bridges safe enough and in reducing life cycle costs. The author has very painstakingly covered both the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject. Familiarity with basic concrete and steel design is required to appreciate the voluminous twelve chapters and the appendices.I would recommend the text book to be used by the practicing engineer and adopted by universities; for senior undergraduate and graduate engineering classes; any time and anywhere.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy CustomerIt is a nice book; in good condition I think; deep worthy for the price.
