Journey in the mind...By TJWell; I can consider this book as the second part of Georges first book: Take Your Photography to the Next Level: From Inspiration to Image. I believe it would be better to read that book first then this one.If you are NOT the type who read diaries or blogs; then this book might not make it for you. The book is simply a journey in the mind of the photographer and how he thinks; works; aspirations and inspirations. Would work for you if you are heavily an abstract photographer; but of course its not a rule here. When you read this book; you better have some experience in Photoshop in the first place. Even though at the end of the book the author appended a chapter about the tools that HE uses in his usual workflow and explains each tool; yet I find it more plausible if you can sweep through the book with some knowledge in Photoshop. Ive found out that George and I myself; do some stuff differently to reach the same goal. For this reason I didnt concentrate much on the processes and the workflow of Photoshop; but I was mainly interested on the engineering and the philosophy of his shots. At the end of each chapter; the author reflects on the images set in the chapter and gives some useful conclusions about his own behavior; work; and workflow. It is a journey in a mind of a photographer.7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Pleasant reading that helpsBy Galambos Tiberiu CarolThe author delivers a lot of insight and jovially talks/walks you through the various aspects of his work-flow.Bottom line; looking at pictures I processed during the period I was reading the book; I see some improved results. There is much to be learned from this book regarding the appropriate philosophical approach to photography that seems to suit both fine art photographers like the author and amateurs like myself. What I did certainly not enjoy is the low level of editing the book received. I red other "Rocky-Nook" books; and they also suffered from miss-numbered illustrations; but this volume excels in giving the feeling that you are reading a not proof-read copy: talk about pictures that did not make it into the book and even whole paragraphs and phrase sections that have been duplicated.Though I am not a "Photoshop" user; all the techniques with the exception of the commercial tools easily translate the the tools I am using. More important than these details are the ideas related to the goal and spirit of the processing.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great bookBy zen_readerI love this beautiful book. Mr. Barr offers many breath-taking examples. His writing style is chatty and encouraging. This is not a "beginners" Photoshop or photography book. He doesnt go into a lot of step-by-step detail about how he achieves his affects. Rather (in my opinion) this book is like walking around at the elbow of a very talented; friendly photographer; while he snaps many shots; chooses the the one he likes best; and manipulates it in his computer. He explains why he does what he does; both with his camera and Photoshop. This is a book I will treasure for a long time.
