Portrait Revolution: Inspiration from Around the World For Creating Art in Multiple Mediums and Styles

[DOC] Portrait Revolution: Inspiration from Around the World For Creating Art in Multiple Mediums and Styles by Julia L. Kay at Arts-Photography

Description

Zoroastrianism has always commanded interest way beyond the circles of its actual adherents. Its unbroken history; remarkable texts and distinctive beliefs span three millennia; making it one of the worldrsquo;s most venerable faiths. For many centuries; from the birth of the religion late in the second millennium BC to its influence on the Achaemenids and later adoption in the third century AD as the state religion of the Sasanian Empire; it enjoyed imperial patronage and profoundly shaped the culture of antiquity. The Magi of the New Testament most probably were Zoroastrian priests from the Iranian world; while the enigmatic figure of Zarathushtra (or Zoroaster) himself has exerted continual fascination in the West; influencing creative artists as diverse as Voltaire; Nietzsche; Mozart and Yeats. This authoritative volume brings together internationally recognised scholars to explore Zoroastrianism in all its rich complexity. Examining key themes such as history and modernity; tradition and scripture; art and architecture and minority status and religious identity; it places the modern Zoroastrians of Iran; and the Parsis of India; in their proper contexts. The book extends and complements the coverage of its companion volume; The Everlasting Flame.

An Inspirational Slice of Cake from the Portrait PartyBy JKI can recommend Portrait Revolution without reservation to anyone with a penchant for the visual arts in general and portraiture in particular. The book is a collection of selected pieces which were created as part of Julia Kays Portrait Party. an online project of over 1000 artists which began in 2010 and is ongoing. Its not exactly a how-to book. but with anecdotes and reflections on the creative process from the artists themselves. its more than just a coffee-table collection of artwork. The styles and mediums represented in these pages are incredibly diverse. One of my favorite features of the book is the showcasing of portraits done by different artists of the same subject. showing there are multiple ways to interpret the world.Julia Kays Portrait Party is an incredibly vibrant and warm community of artists. and this book is an deliciously inspirational slice of cake from the party. Just flipping through the pages makes me want to put pencil to paper and dip my brushes in paint.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Bravo!By William D. RogersExcellence has marked every stage of the Julia Kay Portrait Party experience. Why should the release of this communitys first book be any exception? I knew it would be a great testament to the hard work and good will of its creators all over the planet. but the level of care put into making this and making it right has surpassed even reasonable expectations. Another Bravo for Julia Kay and the community she has inspired and gathered together from around the world. What a privilege to have been welcomed into the group and to be a part of this project. Hats off (even Julias crazy hats) to everyone who worked hard making this dream a reality. This book is a must for anyone wanting to learn more about the joy of portraiture. I think if theres one thing Julia imparts to us all it is the knowledge that drawing is for everyone. Pull up a chair!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Variety is the spice of lifeBy BarbThis is a book show casing the work of the online group. Julia Kays Portrait Party. where artists from all over the world draw and paint portraits of each other. Diversity sums up this book. Diversity of artists. mediums. and techniques. You will find portraits in pencil. charcoal. oils. acrylics. watercolor. pastel. mosaic. digital. and other mediums. There is also a section by the artists on their thoughts about creating art and commentary by the author. Julia Kay. This is not a how to book. It is a book of appreciation for the many ways a face can be interpreted. Enjoy!
