If you enjoy Proust. familiarity with Ruskin is essential. The Oxford edition is nicely produced. but you may want to supplement it by reading Kenneth Clarks introduction to the Rupert Hart-Davis edition of 1949. Here are two of Clarks perceptive morsels: "Praeterita is the only one of Ruskins writings intended to give pleasure." "Ruskin never doubted that he was one of the elect."3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Ruskins best book all round. now in near-perfect digital formatBy Thomas L. JeffersOUP has done an excellent job on this book: very few errors. and easy to navigate. For some reason. however. the press didnt include "Dilecta." the appendix with Rs letters relating to his autobiography thats in most editions of the book. Nor. though this is asking for the moon. do we have the illustrations--mostly Rs watercolors of places mentioned--that enhance the Library Edition of 1903-12. It would be nice to have them.
