[ebooks] Pride Joy: Taking the Streets of New York City by Jurek Wajdowicz at Arts-Photography

Description

A picturesque town nestled among the wildflower-covered foothills of the Sierras; Lindsay is the epitome of the ideal California lifeone of health; wealth and sunshine. Lindsay became the heart of the states second gold rush; when large-scale farming became popular; by hitting the mother lode with oranges. With over 16 citrus packinghouses; people initially came to Lindsay to seek their fortune. The success of the citrus groves attracted not only many skilled Japanese farmers but also many immigrants who were new to the trade. By the 1920s; Lindsays most famous crop became Lindsay Ripe Olives. Lindsay is a town of surprising inventions and innovations that revolutionized agriculture; citrus farming; irrigation; and especially the olive industry.

Cool and colorfulBy Susan_MAHumorist and LGBT activist Kate Clinton says in her introduction that this book: "Captures the five-alarm sensory blast that is the NYC Gay Pride Marchrdquo;. I think she got it right.Cool. playful and colorful. Wajdowiczs photo-book offers vivid pictures of marchers. bystanders and leading figures in the community -- truly modern images that revel in the rich diversity of parade. The book intertwines the poignant. funny and moving thoughts of some fifty prominent Pride Parade participants. including Lea DeLaria. Don Savage. Cyndi Lauper. new yorks mayor de Blasio. Edith Windsor. Evan Wolfson. Alison Bechdel. rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum. Kevin Jennings. Catherine Gund and Anthony Romero.A lovely and important book for the queer communities everywhere. for the New York lovers. for the fans of good contemporary photography everywhere.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A MUST HAVEBy JRPride and Joy offers up a mesmerizing look at the history of New Yorks Pride Parade and the individuals that come together to revel in the shared expression of their authentic selves. The testimonials alone make this a compelling collection of the LGBT experience. but it is the photography of Jurek Wajdowicz. whose images are both striking and ebullient. that truly delivers a visual experience that readers will not soon forget.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. enJOY this beautiful book!By JanThe people! The beautiful colors in the costuming! The joy on faces!Yes. there are testimonials and memories recounted. and they are very important. but it is the colors and the evident joy on the faces of the people in the parade (including Sir Ian McKellan!) that reach out and want you to share with them! The photography is as incredible as the costuming of those who chose to do so. The viewer can only be enriched by this volume. and reading the memories and testimonials is a documentation of recent history.Get this book. enjoy the feast for the eyes. learn to support those who are no more odd than anyone else. but have been made to feel that they are. Many thanks to GR Giveaways for the opportunity to receive a copy for free.
