I would have preferred being able to give it a 4 3/4 star rating; rather than a full 5; but such gradations arent available.There are several minor errors; concerning character names or scene details; that make this a less-than-perfect book. Having said that; I found it to be a very enjoyable read; well-written; very interesting; and educational even for a Stooges fanatic (which I am; and which is why I spotted the sorts of errors that a casual reader probably wouldnt.)I believe Ive read every book there is to read; concerning the Stooges; and Ive seen every one of the shorts a minimum of fifteen or twenty times each; with some having probably reached triple figures by now. I consider my knowledge of the Stooges; and their films; at least equal to anyone outside of the actual performers; crew; or family members; but this book gave me facts and details that I never knew before; a very rare feat at this late stage of my Stooge-filled life. For that alone; Id rank this among the top three or four books ever written concerning The Boys. "Moe Howard The Three Stooges" and "The Three Stooges Scrapbook" are musts; but I might put this one next in line for the true hardcore fan. Thats how much I enjoyed it; despite the (as I said; small) errors.Good job; Mr. Hogan. Theres been several books on their careers; but this one analyses and goes into details about their careers through their shorts and their co-stars with behind the scenes facts; obscure trivia and historical tidbits from the time. A Vivid Look at the Stooges Best WorkBy Deb DavisUnlike other books on The Three Stooges; this one focuses exclusively on the two-reelers they made for Columbia Pictures between the years 1934 and 1957. That resonated with me; since that is when the Stooges were at their peak; comedically speaking. The shorts have a lunatic quality that has rarely (if ever) been captured in book form; author David J. Hogan manages to evoke that quality in a skillful and literate manner. In addition to the vivid descriptions and critiques of the shorts (contained in logically organized chapters revolving around prevalant themes in the Stooges films); he shines the spotlight on some 30 members of their revolving stock company of supporting players. There seems to be a special emphasis on the incredibly sexy (and at times dangerous) ladies who populated the Stooges universe. Mr. Hogan obviously had his mind on more than just comedy when he was viewing these wonderful films. But; then; so did almost every other boy who grew up watching Moe; Larry; Curly; Shemp; and Joe.
