John was there (largely) before any other writers and got interviews with folks that few others talked to. so his source material is amazing. Among New Orleans music scholars John is highly regarded and well loved. While there are other excellent books on the subject by such folks as Jeff Hannusch and. of course Rick Colemans landmark bio of Fats Domino.
