Simon(I would really give it 3.5 stars if I could...but Im adjusting downward because the only other review. a 5-star-review. is facile and possibly a plant.)This book is basically an academic dissertation on two of Radioheads more beguiling albums. As an academic exercise without any real narrative arc. it is not the kind of book you read excitedly start-to-finished: about 2/3rds of the way through it. I decided I had gotten the gist and skipped to the last chapter. That said. fans of these albums will gain many interesting insights--as this is a far deeper read than any commercial music reviewer would submit an album to. The simple fact that 250 pages can plausibly be devoted to these two albums is a compelling case for their work as art that deserves as much (dare I say more?) musicological analysis as the classical greats. Some of the analysis is surely right on track... some of it is pretty far-fetched...and I could not help thinking as I read through. What would Thom think of all this? At the end. I still realized I had no idea.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Like an academic paperBy SurgeI pretty much agree with Mr. Simons review. although at times itfelt like pretentious guesswork. It felt very much like a music majorsacademic paper. And who among us hasnt resorted to a little B.S. towork our way through a paper? Radiohead drummer. Phil Selway.has been quoted as saying. "Really. we dont want people twiddlingtheir goatees over our stuff." I feel like this author spent plentyof time twiddling her goatee. Although parts of this book were reallyintriguing and made for an interesting read. I couldnt really decideif i liked or disliked reading this book. Ultimately the answer was both.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A must for fans of the band or students of contemporary alternative rock and its themesBy Midwest Book ReviewRadiohead has earned a unique following and fanbase unlike any other in the world. "Radiohead: And the Resistant Concept Album. How to Disappear Completely" looks at the approach from the British band on the their concept animals and their deeper meaning in analysis of their ideas and opinions of alienation and anticapitalism. Stating that the band has departed from the usual path of the concept album. Marianne Tatom Letts provides quite the intriguing analysis of the music and the band. "Radiohead" is a must for fans of the band or students of contemporary alternative rock and its themes.
