In this book; Conrad Rudolph studies and reconstructs Hugh of Saint Victors forty-two-page written work; The Mystic Ark; which describes the medieval painting of the same name. In medieval written sources; works of art are not often referred to; let alone described in any detail. Almost completely ignored by art historians because of the immense difficulty of its text; Hugh of Saint Victors Mystic Ark (c.1125ndash;30) is among the most unusual sources we have for an understanding of medieval artistic culture. Depicting all time; all space; all matter; all human history and all spiritual striving; this highly polemical painting deals with a series of cultural issues crucial in the education of societys elite during one of the great periods of intellectual change in Western history.

A Great Book made BetterBy Structures_ProfI have been using this text for almost 20 years in my class. I just received the latest edition last week. I must say that the changes made have made a great book even better. I would recommend it to any faculty teaching a structures class or an architect getting ready for his or her license exam. This is a great book. I would recommend it without reservation.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy CustomerGreat book; Im learning all lot from this book!
