English-speaking readers might be surprised to learn that Alain Badiou writes fiction and plays along with his philosophical works and that they are just as important to understanding his larger intellectual project. In Ahmed the Philosopher; Badious most entertaining and accessible play; translated into English here for the first time; readers are introduced to Badious philosophy through a theatrical tour de force that has met with much success in France. Ahmed the Philosopher presents its comic hero; the "treacherous servant" Ahmed; as a seductively trenchant philosopher even as it casts philosophy itself as a comic performance. The comedy unfolds as a series of lessons; with each "short play" or sketch illuminating a different Badiousian concept. Yet Ahmed does more than illustrate philosophical abstractions; he embodies and vivifies the theatrical and performative aspects of philosophy; mobilizing a comic energy that exposes the emptiness and pomp of the world. Through his example; the audience is moved to a living engagement with philosophy; discovering in it the power to break through the limits of everyday life.

Recently I was on a cruise where they showed the film Monkey Kingdom; so I was a bit curious about this. Note; this had nothing at all to do with that film. The book started out stating that theres over 264 species of monkeys. Then the book briefly explored.... 14 varieties. Its not anything elaborate either. Theres a stock photo of the monkey along with 1-2 random facts that could have been easily swiped from the opening paragraphs of Wikipedia. I dont believe that much effort was put into this book. Its definitely way above the grade level of most 3rd graders. Id suggest reading this with a 4 or 5 year old. Theres no glossary which I found odd for a childrens science book. The pictures are very bright; vibrant and eye-catching. The font used is very clear and bright as well. Its really nice over all.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. great animal bookBy crewmomThe monkey Kingdom species of monkeysI got this book for my six year old. He has always been interested in animals and this book is perfect for him. The pictures in this book are wonderfully detailed photographs that are close up and bring the reader the best experience. My son enjoys the animal facts and loves to retell everyone all the things hersquo;s learned about them. The monkeys are so interesting in this book. I found myself learning some things as I was reading it to my son.I bought this book along with others in this series to take to a sporting event to keep my son entertained. While I was reading the book several kids came up and sat listening to the story and commenting on the pictures. This book is well written with cool facts that kids love to hear and are easy for them to remember. (144)I prefer the digital versions of these books to the hard copy because the digital is so much easier to travel with and switch between. With an active lifestyle it helps to make even the simplest things more convenient. We try to limit our kids game time by reading and itrsquo;s always a pleasure to find a book like this one that not only grabs their interest but can spark their imagination. During playing with his friends I caught little snippets here and there of the facts that they learned in this book. Irsquo;m always amazed at the amount of information little ones can retain.During this event I actually recommended this book to a couple of moms whos kids had taken an interest to what I was reading.I received this book at a free or reduced rate in exchange for provided an unbiased and honest review. The Monkey Kingdom (Species of Monkeys) : 3rd Grade Science Series: Monkey Books for Kids (Animal Encyclopedia For Children)1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
