Ive given away. thrown away. or sold all of them. This is the best book on the subject of home recording you can buy. The author talks about the science of sound and the art of recording. There are many recorded audio examples available on the publishers website to illustrate what the author is explaining through out the text. The author explains the recording equipment and process very thoroughly and in an easy to understand manner. The author is true to his word about the "On A Budget" part of the title. Its been my experience that the biggest difference between a $1000 microphone and a $150 microphone is $850 because my ears cant tell the difference. not $850 worth anyway. Thats the kind of approach to spending money on equipment the author takes.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good beginner book for those who want to record various types of music.By Piano manThis is a great beginning book for recording. It covers basic micing techniques and recommends basic equipment that you should consider for different types of recordings. It also has considerations for a home studio. which didnt apply to me since I go to the venue where the musicians are and record there. I record mostly classical music ensembles and I found this book helpful.-Tom2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. My favorite for small setupsBy CustomerThough this says "low budget". i think this is also a great review of how to get professional quality sound with a minimalism viewpoint. Its one of the few books that goes over ortf in detail. as well as other dual mic stereo techniques - which produce extremely high quality recordings with a small amount of gear. I am following his guidelines with a set of km184s. with great results for my film.
