Recoveries and Reclamations: 2 (Advances in Art Urban Futures)

[DOC] Recoveries and Reclamations: 2 (Advances in Art Urban Futures) by Daniel Hinchcliffe; Judith Rugg at Arts-Photography

Description

The book interrogates notions of distance; interval; time and space explorations in scenography and performance which are concerned to encompass the creative; historical; performing; interdisciplinary; writing; architectural; and senses of presence in space. Space becomes practice; scenography becomes performance; memory and biography as the written space; which becomes spectatorship as experiential space. The authors look at the sensory anomalies which are a part of performance and which emanate from visual presentations.

GilmoreIm suspect karaoke enthusiasts will naturally enjoy Dragoos examination of their beloved activity. But there is much to learn here for us non-karaoke folk as well. As I read _Sing!_; I found myself thinking that many service workers must feel about their jobs the way most of us view karaoke: its not really something we want to do. Ive twice found myself forced (by friends) on a karaoke stage; and my only thought in both instances: Get me out of here! The wisdom that Dragoo extracts from his years doing karaoke -- as both a performer and a song-jockey -- offers sage advice for anyone looking to motivate and encourage human performances in the workplace; especially those with front-line staff. The book is well-organized; breezily written; and full of brilliantly simple insights. The mix of clearly stated principles; entertaining anecdotes; and interviews with various karaoke singers (some converted skeptics); offers a wonderful managerial playlist of ways to help people overcome stage fright; embrace uncomfortable circumstances and change; take risks; and perform with confidence.Frankly; it is amazing how Dragoo has dissected every nuance of the karaoke experience (the "step up;" the lights; the errors; the tricks; and much more) to present a model for how any engaging work endeavor (satisfying for performer and compelling for the audience) can be transformed from the mundane into the meaningful. Yes; lessons from something as seemingly trite as karaoke! Indeed; maybe there is so much to be learned from this book for the very reason that the subject matter is karaoke.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Useful and Entertaining Book from a promising new author!By David F. DruryWith so many books available promising to help transform our lives; it is refreshing to find a book like this from a new author who has a tremendous story to tell. By sharing his personal journey on the karaoke stage; Doc provides a framework that is both easy to relate to and fun to read. His common sense approach and warm writing style make the reader feel as if Steve is sitting there with them sharing his stories and personally encouraging them to Step up and go for it."Doc encourages us to stake our claim on the stage and own our song. After reading this thought-provoking and entertaining book; I personally have a clearer vision of how I will do this myself. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for inspiration in finding their song!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
