Gilchrists fabulous playing; which really comes to light in the tunes after the chapter on I-IV-V chords when she adds left-hand accompaniment that isnt transcribed. The exercises in the chapters Starting to Play and Arpeggios are very helpful. I particularly like the Ostinado chapter. The tunes are varied and fairly good--theres an OCarolan tune and the Rolling Wave jig. Throughout the book; she emphasizes proper hand technique and hand independence. Above; she mentions several times to try new things; to use what works for the player and to put the music must come first. She; herself; is an innovator and so the book word benefit from more of her words on arranging/improvising. The text is fine; but it would be nice to expand on the chord section; for instance. Perhaps a sequel would be appropriate to cover these topics. On the recording; the jigs could use a bit of "pop" and this may be a result of schooling and try to play immaculately for the Books CD. A bouncier left hand would not be amiss.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Practice practice practiceBy eviljimNice book. Cd is good.
