Theaters have always been the places where memories are made. There; on Saturday afternoons; children could escape the pressures of growing up to live for two hours in a fantasy world of daring heroes; dastardly villains; and dazzling magic. They were the places where awkward teenage boys could nervously; and often clumsily; put their arms around equally nervous girls. In years past; every neighborhood had its own local theater. Downtown was home to the great movie palaces; ornate portals to a world of motion picture thrills. For a unique experience; nothing could beat a hot summer night at the drive-in. Today; in the era of the corporate multiplex; the great movie palaces are just memories. Some neighborhood cinemas are now churches or venues for meetings; wedding receptions; and small concerts. Images of America: Cincinnati Theaters looks back at these marvelous old theaters and the days when they were in their prime.

This book took me about 30 minutes to read and is a disjointed series of old photos and postcards with descriptions. It read my like a high school project than a serious history of the OBX. It may be better in the paper version as a neat coffee table book; perhaps the pictures would be more visible and interesting; but I do not advise buying the Kindle version if you are looking for a good read on the Outer Banks. Wish I could return a Kindle book.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful and informativeBy hatterasman1870Wonderful and informative. May be brief but showcases many of the historical landmarks of the Outer Banks through vintage photographs along with short; informative descriptions. This was not meant to be an in depth look at the entire history of the Outer Banks. Rather; this showcases the more notable landmarks; people; events; etc.6 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Great BookBy A CustomerThis was a great book. The photos of shipwrecks from the Coast Guard archives were awesome. There are also some cool lighthouse shots. Tons of useful information.
