Ribbon Knits: 45 New Designs to Knit and Crochet

[DOC] Ribbon Knits: 45 New Designs to Knit and Crochet by Judi Alweil at Arts-Photography

Description

Akim Volynsky was a Russian literary critic; journalist; and art historian who became Saint Petersburgrsquo;s liveliest and most prolific ballet critic in the early part of the twentieth century. This book; the first English edition of his provocative and influential writings; provides a striking look at life inside the world of Russian ballet at a crucial era in its history.Stanley J. Rabinowitz selects and translates forty of Volynskyrsquo;s articlesmdash;vivid; eyewitness accounts that sparkle with details about the careers and personalities of such dance luminaries as Anna Pavlova; Mikhail Fokine; Tamara Karsavina; and George Balanchine; at that time a young dancer in the Maryinsky company whose keen musical sense and creative interpretive power Volynsky was one of the first to recognize. Rabinowitz also translates Volynskyrsquo;s magnum opus; The Book of Exaltations; an elaborate meditation on classical dance technique that is at once a primer and an ideological treatise. Throughout his writings; Rabinowitz argues in his critical introduction; which sets Volynskyrsquo;s life and work against the backdrop of the principal intellectual currents of his time; Volynsky emphasizes the spiritual and ethereal qualities of ballet.

Really now - it is an EXCELLENT book.By gemflintIf youre looking for patterns that are flashy and that might go out of style and be outdated in the next six months to a year. dont buy this book. With that being said. if you are looking for timeless styles that are quiet but still beautiful. then by all means DO buy this book; the patterns are all lovely and look to be beginner-friendly.As for the concern about the patterns calling for the authors brand of yarn. yes. thats true. However. the author does frequently mention the ribbon yarns width and yardage needed. so if you dont mind doing a little comparison shopping you should be able to find some cheaper yarn that will still work for you. (Isnt that what knitting is all about - being adventurous?)All in all. this one is a keeper. It will certainly be staying in my knitters library and is a welcome addition.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Four StarsBy Roberta ImmelSimple lovely knit patterns for ribbon yarn.
