As someone else mentioned; it states that whales and manatee are the only mammals that live their entire life in the water. Somehow they excluded dolphins and porpoises. ? Why? Well; I just dont know and that really has me wondering about the other facts in this books and other books in this series as well. There are about 200 books from Baby Professor that are offered for either free or for 99 cents right now. Ive read several of them and have found some grammatical errors in some. While that doesnt bother me so much; getting the facts wrong does bother me. If someone knows why dolphins and porpoises were excluded; Id really like to know and would certainly change my review. Also; this book does have a lot of "facts" that are well advanced for the target audience. While I think its awesome to say that some whales hunt using echolocation; the book could easily tell a child what that is.Overall I really like these books in this series; but after reading this one I am disappointed that maybe the "facts" arent quite right? One thing I really do like about these book are the pictures. I can pull them up on my computer and iPad and they really are awesome to look at.Still; I will keep these books on my reader and when my kids are bored waiting at the doctors office or waiting for the others sports practices; we can pull them up and read them or at least flip through the pictures. So in short.Pros:Awesome picturesCool "Facts"The price is free right nowMight get kids interested in Whales and finding out moreCons:At least one facts is wrong (see first paragraph); making me question the other "facts" of this book and all the others in this series as wellSome words or even ideas are too advanced without getting into simple explanation of the idea or wordsOverall I do like these books but a little less after reading this one. :(*****I received this ebook for free for my honest review.*****2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful and Bright photos that are great for all ages!By Jones FamilyI just received the ebook Whales: Lets Meet Mr. Big Fins and I really like this book. We are a home school family and this year in science we are studying aquatic animals of the sea so this book fit in perfectly. I have not shown it to my kids yet because we are almost learning about whales and I know they will love this when we get to it. All of the pages are filled with bright; beautiful and vibrant photos of whales. The detail you can see in this ebook is great. They have a couple photos of whales surfacing to eat fish and you can see all the detail of the little fish even against the side of the whale. They dont blend in or get lost in the photo. I think they did a really good job of picking their photos. Along with each photo there is a small information section that tells you little bits of information about whales. From what they are to what they eat to where they migrate; so you get a great deal of information as you read through the book. In my opinion this would be a good book for kids ranging from 6 - 12 years old. Beyond that I think they would want a little more information then what the book contains. Younger children will enjoy looking at the photos as well as for me as an adult; I enjoyed looking at the photos along with refreshing myself on the information about whales.I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. I give this book a five out of five stars because I believe it was excellently done and is great for a wide range of ages to enjoy.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I LOVE WHALES!By RyanFirst of all; I love whales so pretty much anything with whales I am a fan of! This was a good kids book that featured lot of photos. There are small excerpts about whales in general or specific species of whales. The written material of this book would offer good opportunities to teach children some of the vocabulary. The photos are high quality and are not pixelated at all. The book also tells you different facts that make whale unique compared to other animals. There are some pages that would also provide the opportunity to talk about the theory of evolution. The book also offers some physical descriptions of whales and some of their basic anatomy and how that differs from humans. Some of the facts about whales are a little random and donrsquo;t connect to a story arc or concept but we must keep in mind that this is a childrenrsquo;s book. Other information covered includes the migratory patterns of the ldquo;famousrdquo; humpback whale who travel a surprising amount! There is also a great picture that; if you look closely; can see a SCUBA diver swimming next to the huge whales which gives you perspective on how huge whales are compared to humans. One critique I would have of this childrenrsquo;s book is that there is no ending and just kind of stops. I feel like there could be more of an ending; conclusion; or challenge to learn more about whales. Overall; this book is worth a look!I received this kindle book for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
