San Jose (Postcard History Series)

[PDF] San Jose (Postcard History Series) by Bob Johnson in Arts-Photography

Description

New Ark; as it is pronounced and appeared on colonial maps; is located in New Castle County near the borders of Pennsylvania and Maryland. Scotch-Irish and Welsh settlers developed Newark as a market town around the intersection of two Lenni Lenape trails. Newark remained little more than a village throughout its history; reaching a population of only 11;000 by 1960. Today it is over 30;000; with an additional 15;000 students at the University of Delaware.

A Sentimental JourneyBy Don CamptonThis is a great little book that documents some of the classic buildings and architecture of San Jose prior to WWII. Unfortunately. most of those buildings were destroyed by fire. the April 1906 earthquake. or were demolished in the name of "progress" and urban development. All current and former residents of San Jose would enjoy this book. almost like watching a sentimental. tear jerker movie. It is so sad to see what we have lost from yesteryear. But through Bob Johnsons fine little book. we can all cherish those great buildings and places of the past via his postcard history.
