Anchored at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains; Greenville is the cultural center of South Carolinas Piedmont. Today; residents and tourists often find themselves immersed among the charming shops and quaint cafes that line the avenues in the historic Main Street district. A revitalized area today; Greenvilles Main Street was the commercial center of the town during the life of William Coxe; a Greenville photographer who acquired many early images and who brilliantly extended the collection with his own photographs. Remembering Greenville: Photographs from the Coxe Collection explores Greenville during the first half of the 20th century. Stunning black-and-white images enlighten readers about the "old" Greenville that virtually disappeared as the small city was transformed into a large metropolitan area. These images; taken from the 1900s to the 1960s; depict Furman University and Greenville Womens College; both then located in Greenvilles downtown; Camp Wetherill; Greenvilles Spanish-American War training camp; and such personalities as an older; but still legendary; "Shoeless" Joe Jackson.

California in Vintage PostcardsBy Robert TalleyThis is an Arcadia publication which means all the postcard photos are in black and white. no color. Thats why I only gave it four stars. otherwise Id rate it a high five. If postcards can be printed in color. why cant they be shown that way in the book? Nevertheless. this book is an important resource for postcard collectors and San Francisco Bay Area history buffs. As a transportation planner I especially like the cards relating to the Northwestern Pacific Railroad and the Petaluma Santa Rosa Electric Railway. The electric railway is long gone. but after being shut down for several years NWPRR is about to haul freight once again between Lombard in Napa County to Windsor in Sonoma County. California. Add this wonderful "yesteryear" book to your library or at least your coffee table!Robert R. Talley.Author and Publisher.Child on the Home Front0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
