While the focus is on the single painting of the Boit sisters. the text puts the painting into a social and art history context. Entertaining and informative read. Even the story of what happened to the sitters in adult life is compelling. Certainly the life of the artist and the sitters in Paris and America is a delight to discover.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Exemplary!By runnrdadI cant really put into words how wonderful this book is! I am fortunate to be able to visit the MFA on a regular basis. and this book has increased my admiration and love for this painting in so many ways. The manner in which the author puts into context the family. the times. and the artist should be a model for all art historians to follow. Her small work on Childe Hassams "At Dusk" is also written with the same beautiful style.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Worthwhile read. still a mystery...By Suzanne N BrunoI have always loved this painting and was pleased to learn all I could about it. The author was extremely thorough with her research. left no stone unturned and delivered a worthwhile read. I finished the book knowing more and still haunted by the unanswered questions surrounding the painting.
