Description

Sir James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937); best remembered as the creator of Peter Pan; was a Scottish author and dramatist whose works have enjoyed frequent revivals in film and on stage. "Quality Street" appeared in 1903; one year before the production of Peter Pan; as Barrie was becoming somewhat of a sensation in the theatrical world. This four-act comedy is an adult fairy tale of sorts; brought to life by Barries charming imagination and ability to weave between reality and fantasy. Pheobe Throssel and Valentine Brown are a young couple separated by the Neopoleonic wars for ten years; only to find themselves the unfortunate victims of time and age upon their reunion. This story of lost love; spinsters; secret disguises; and the complexities of human emotion will enchant readers today as much as it did the audiences of New York and London over a century ago.

Interesting Take on a Self Indulgent WomanBy Diana of the HuntAlthough this book repeatedly describes Millicent Rogers as stylish. beautiful and artistically inclined. I found her life to be very superficial. self involved and terribly barren. If you want to find out how a woman can squander millions of dollars and leave no legacy but three children who barely knew her and a house full of her last indulgences as well as a documentation of her lovers and husbands you will get what you are looking for.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Rich. beautiful. willfull. talented...By L. BrannelIve been fascinated by Millicent Rogers since I first saw her clothes and jewelry in an exhibit at the Costume Institute. Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York many years ago. Ive also visited her museum near Taos. She is one of those women like Georgia OKeefe and Mable Dodge Luhan who came to northern New Mexico and found a new life--always a fascinating story. But there was so much. so many phases. of her life that was new to me. A creative. innovative woman who found her outlet in fashion and design. She had an knack for picking the places and the men who were at the cultural center of any give time. Highly recommended for fashion buffs. people interested in social history. and anyone receptive to a womans quest.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
