Lucid; well documented and argumentative.rsquo; Times Literary Supplementlsquo;A vastly entertaining read...undoubtedly one of the best entreacute;es to this area.rsquo; The Modern ReviewCan fine art survive in an age of mass media? If so; in what forms and to what purpose? And can radical art still play a critical role in todays divided world? These are the challenging questions addressed in this thoroughly revised; updated and expanded edition of Art in the Age of Mass Media; as John Walker examines the fascinating relationship between art and mass media; and the myriad interactions between high and low culture in a postmodern; culturally pluralistic world. Using a range of historic and contemporary works of art to illustrate theoretical points; Walker explores the variety of ways in which modern artists have responded to the arrival of new; mass media. He ranges from the socialist paintings of Courbet to the anti-Nazi photomontages of Heartfield; from community murals and Keith Harings use of graffiti to the kitsch self-promotion associated with Jeff Koons. The new edition describes what happened during the 1990s; including Toscanis adverts for Benetton; the simulations of Leeds 13; art and cinema; Damien Hirst; and the cyberart currently being produced for the internet. Art in the Age of Mass Media is an invaluable introduction to the continuing debates between high art and low culture for students of media and cultural studies and art history.

They are NOT transcriptions for solo piano. The arrangements are excellent if you wish to play with another musician on a separate instrument capable of playing a descant.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Just a bit disappointed in thisBy CBJust a bit disappointed in this. Maybe I didnt read the description well enough but I thought I was getting a keyboard arrangement of the tunes. What was written was the solo violin (or voice) on a separate stave over a keyboard reduction of the orchestral accompaniment. To play everything. you will need to fit the violin part into the accompaniment and sometimes it is overlapping. Just be aware of that. Overall though the arrangements are good and true to the recording.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. No separate violin partBy S. BertschGenerous collection of pieces. but beware - there is no separate violin part. so youll have to deal w/ multiple pages which for some of the pieces is very inconvenient. Why isnt there a separate violin part? Crazy!
