Seeing Seeds: A Journey into the World of Seedheads; Pods; and Fruit (Seeing Series)

[audiobook] Seeing Seeds: A Journey into the World of Seedheads; Pods; and Fruit (Seeing Series) by Teri Dunn Chace; Robert Llewellyn at Arts-Photography

Description

Jessica Hoppers music criticism has earned her a reputation as a firebrand; a keen observer and fearless critic not just of music but the culture around it. With this volume spanning from her punk fanzine roots to her landmark piece on R. Kellys past; The First Collection leaves no doubt why The New York Times has called Hoppers work "influential." Not merely a selection of two decades of Hoppers most engaging; thoughtful; and humorous writing; this book documents the last 20 years of American music making and the shifting landscape of music consumption. The book journeys through the truths of Riot Grrrls empowering insurgence; decamps to Gary; IN; on the eve of Michael Jacksons death; explodes the grunge-era mythologies of Nirvana and Courtney Love; and examines emos rise. Through this vast range of album reviews; essays; columns; interviews; and oral histories; Hopper chronicles what it is to be truly obsessed with music. The pieces in The First Collection send us digging deep into our record collections; searching to re-hear what we loved and hated; makes us reconsider the art; trash; and politics Hopper illuminates; helping us to make sense of what matters to us most.

There are no floor plans and therefore no context and no way of understanding the relationship between inside and outside; which is the key to this kind of architecture. A lot of "lifestyle" photos a la Martha Stewart; close-ups with an emphasis on native handicrafts. Nigh impossible to figure out the relationship of the spaces to each other. Not even a decent discussion of the weather; which at 85 degrees and 85% relative humidity; requires a through breeze in every space to prevent the interiors from being stifling. The style appropriates a lot from recent luxury hotel development in the tropics; with infinity pools galore; chunky furniture and rough crafts. Luxury hotels being aspirational spaces; it is no surprise that the features have migrated to domestic architecture.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. superbBy Julia Jamesif you wanted to have ideas about bali houses you can buy this and you can learn so many things from it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
