Sell Your Own Damn Movie!

[audiobook] Sell Your Own Damn Movie! by Lloyd Kaufman in Arts-Photography

Description

(Book). John Lennon once described her as "the worlds most famous unknown artist: everybody knows her name; but nobody knows what she does." Many people are aware of her art; and her music has always split crowds; from her caterwauling earliest work to her later dance numbers; but how many people have looked at Yoko Onos decades-spanning career and varied work in total and asked the simple question; "Is it any good?" From her earliest work with the Fluxus group and especially her relationship with John Cage; through her enigmatic pop happenings (where she met John Lennon); her experimental films; cryptic books; conceptual art; and her long recording career that has vacillated between avant-garde noise and proto-new wave; earning the admiration of other artists while generally confusing the public at large who often sees her only in the role of the widow Lennon; Reaching Out with No Hands is the first serious; critical; wide-ranging look at Yoko Ono the artist and musician. A must-read for art and music fans interested in going beyond the stereotyped observations of Yoko as a Lennon hanger-on or inconsequential avant noisemaker.

Vital information for any independent artist.By BcarbvidLloyds fabulous book gives the most up to date information from the most qualified person to speak on how hard it is to sell an independent film. He tells how things used to happen and from experience both his own and of collaborators what kind of opposition you can expect to run into trying to sell film today. He also shows how brilliantly some have overcome the limitations imposed by the Hollywood studio system as well as history on how that came to be. how it fell apart and how it is back stronger than ever. He does all this with such endless humor and personality that the book is honestly an entertaining read even if you never attempt to do anything artistic. The entire book is read as though you are his close personal friend going so far as to give you his phone number and email address. I have never felt so welcomed by an author. The future of independent film is going to come from this book (Provided it is not crushed under the heel of corporate greed and unfair lobbying and legislation).2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. As funny as it is sadBy Jared L MastersI liked this book. I looked forward to every chapter. it definitely gave me some incite to distribution angles. it was hilarious. especially how Lloyd included the notes from his editor about taking out unrelated banter. really funny. It was a little depressing at times how he talked about how these days its hard to get even 50 people to see your movie. which is sad. and I dont know why he would spend $500.000 on a chicken joke movie if he knew this. but I guess you can learn what mistakes not to do from reading this book. I would like to meet Lloyd and tell him how Ive been trying to sell my own damn movies!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Invaluable Movie-Making Guide From an Indie SuccessBy Nick HowesLloyd Kaufman is the guy to go to for information on getting an indie movie out there. Hes been at it with Troma for decades and thats an incredible achievement. Even for a movie fan like me. interested in the process. but with no intention of making my own movie (youre welcome world). its an informative inside look to getting your movie in front of people. He talks about getting into theaters. film festivals. foreign agents. press kits. social networking. and other assorted aspects. all mixed in with a gonzo humor style that people of normal sensitivty will find offensive (which makes us select individuals). Great follow-up to his other how-to books and excellent for any film fans library. whatever your ambitions.
