A fantastic look at the Great Plague of 1665-67!By Deb LindstromI dont know just where to begin to describe the level of detail and the thorough examination of this Second of the three known historical Great Plagues. Not only is this horror of a disease described in exacting detail; but the all too human cost: financial; emotional; and interestingly mysterious aspects of how real; known people of this time actually dealt with it on a very personal level is also a mastery of this work.In reading; one comes to know the various historically accurate figures who lived and died throughout this epidemic both through their personal writings and their carefully studied diaries preserved lest we ever forget what did happen; and could happen again as the plague is still with us; remotely; today. Are we prepared for a possible new strain of epidemic on this level; able to kill thousands of people per week; week after week; until vaccine is found for it? I really dont think we are; but we should be. The true economic damage of this epidemic was astronomical. Do we have the resources to deal with it yet again?Pause for thought. Seriously. An excellent scientifically told story of a drama we could see again. One waiting to emerge to terrify yet again as thousands are carried off with high rates of mortality after just two or three days of illness. Do we have what it will take to combat such an event? I hope so; because the threat is real.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Zihan Tanggood0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Wonderfully written and engrossing historical account!By Lindsay CrislerAn absolutely fantastic read! The Mootes created a captivating and extremely detailed account of the Great Plague of 1665 through the lens of human experience during such calamity. As a reader who loves history but does not often get the chance to read about it; this book kept my rapt attention the entire way through. This book could be required reading for all people just to give perspective on how far weve truly come as a civilization. We should not forget that the tragedies of past centuries had very real human costs and use that to inform how we react and behave in the future. Very glad to have read this book! Thanks to the authors!
